Instructor: Nathan Smith

Nathan Smith has been social dancing since 1998 and dancing tango since 2005.  He currently teaches tango in Bali and Jakarta.

Last year, he lived in in Buenos Aires devoting himself exclusively to tango for 3 1/2 months.

Upon returning, he was employed by the 8th Style School of Tango (www.the8thstyle.com),

the largest tango school in the Pacific Northwest with one of the most innovative curricula offered anywhere in the world.

As a teacher there, he received instruction in both dance and teaching from Jaimes Friedgen a singular talent in the tango world.

While he was there in addition to teaching he participated in all aspects of running the business.

Since then he's traveled, taught and performed with Luiza Paes and performed with Graciela Gonzalez in Portland

(both tangueras who have been teaching in Buenos Aires and around the world for over a decade).

More recently, he's moved to Portland and have been teaching private lessons, sometimes to other teachers wanting to learn how to connect with their students.

He is deeply interested in pedagogy and the dance learning process and have had the good fortune to work with some of the most thoughtful and creative teachers working in Tango today.

Here's a listing of the currently operating milongas and practicas in Bali as of today. As you can see it's possible to dance every day of the week.

Tuesday Nights - Open House Pralonga at the Bali Tango Club

Time: Dinner begins around 8pm dancing starts around 9pm.
Address: 17 Sari Dewi, Seminyak
Cost: 50,000 for members of the Bali Tango Club, 100,000 rp otherwise
Food/Drink: Vegetarian Buffet is available for 50,000 rp
Music: Mostly traditional, with some alternative. Music is organized in tandas.
Extras: Teachers are available to help and answer questions.

Thursday Nights - Milonga at Cafe Bali

Time: 10pm
Address: Jl Laksmana, Seminyak
Cost: Free
Food/Drink: Milonga is at a Restaurant with an international menu.
Music: Mostly traditional, with some alternative. Music is organized in tandas.

Sunday Nights - Guided Practica at the Bali Tango Club

Time: There is a Beginner's drop in lesson from 8 until 9pm. The Practica goes from 9 until midnight.

Cost: 50,000 rp.
Food/Drink: Cold Water is available free of charge
Music: Music is all traditional. Music is organized in tandas.
Extras: Teachers are available to help and answer questions.

Monday through Saturday Nights - Dancing at Made's Warung

Time: Dancing typically begins between 10pm and 11pm
Address: Jl Legian, Seminyak
Cost: Free
Food/Drink: Milonga is at a Restaurant with an international menu.
Music: Mostly alternative. No Tandas.
Extras: Hired taxi dancers dance with women here free of charge.
